NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course –  sign up early the courses are filling fast.

The Pleasant River Fish & Game Conservation Association is currently offering NRA Basic Pistol Course classes. We have six instructors certified by the NRA to teach this course. Course dates are announced regularly on our website and through various publications (local newspapers etc.) This is an extensive all day course on Saturdays from 7:00 AM to 5:00PM, held at our facility on Tibettstown Road in Columbia, ME. See home page map for directions.

We have great facilities to teach this course. Among them are clean restrooms, kitchen with microwave, refrigerator ect. The ranges are 25, 50, 100, and 200 yards. The cost for this course is $95.00. Pre payment and pre registration are required.

Our goal is to provide the public with the best pistol course in the state of Maine. The course includes instruction on the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. If you have a pistol in your home this course will benefit you even if you do not shoot for recreation. Women are welcome here and most of our classes are about 50% female.  Completion of this course satisfies the Maine State Police and law enforcement agencies in most states that issue concealed carry permits to meet safety course requirements. This course includes live firing under supervision of our instructors and is especially helpful to beginners. The course stresses the safe handling of all firearms. Also covered are pistol mechanics and function, caliber identification, how to handle malfunctions, sighting and sight adjustment, cleaning and care, different types of pistol actions and many other things too numerous to mention here.
